Travel to Darjeeling

Darjeeling alliviates you of the scorching and humid heat of the summer. Darjeeling is located in North of West Bengal. Darjeeling is one of the most beautiful hillstations in eastern India.





To reach Darjeeling nearest railhead is Siliguri or New Jalpaiguri.

Nearest Airport is at Bagdogra about 40 kilomiters from Siliguri.

From Siliguri there are number of ways you can reach Darjeeling.

Most uncomplicated way is to hire a car from the railway station or airport. It costs anywhere between 1500 to 3000 rupees

You can hop onto a jeep which takes a group of around 8 to 10 to Darjeeling. It costs around 150 rupees

Or else you can take a regular bus service to Darjeeling. It costs around 80 rupees

And if you want to reach Darjeeling in a picture perfect style then take the toy train. The only thing you have to take care of is to book the tickets 2 months in advance. (It is advisable to take train if you have lot of time in hand. The train takes 8 hours as compared to 3-4 hours by any other means of transport)



The toy train ride is an exiting and gives a chance to enjoy the fauna and flora of the hills.



Siliguri is the last plain land before the hill starts( the place from which the hill starts is Sukna) . If you are going by road, then you get a chance to touch the very primrose we read in the poems of of wordsworth .On the way, we cross WayTung, Tindharia, Gayabari, Khersong and Ghoom and then we reach Darjeeling ( which is 7000ft above sea level).



Mesmerizing attractions for tourist include The Tea Gardens, View of different peaks, especially Kanchanjanga, The flamboyant sunrise from Tiger Hill, Senchal Lake in Ghoom (a place around 9km apporximately from Darjeeling), Ghoom Monastry, Batasia loop, Observatory, Mahakal Temple, The Mall, Tenjing Rock Mountaineering Institute, Lebong race course, Botanical Garden(especially famous for orchids), Padmaja Zoo and Rangit Valley rope way

Nearby places to visit Kalimgpong, Kherseong, Mirik and Gangtok

Type of cuisines prevalent are Bengali, Tibetan, Chinese etc.
